Who knows… My best dresses came from the sketchiest scribbles.
Melbourne heat inspired me to come back to light gingham. Summer dress variation for teens (not necessary).
With all the things going on around I almost forgot about Tat’s dress. So today I’m taking a day off to be a cool mum. After dozen of sketches, I choose this combination. It was an interesting exercise to put together most of the things she wants in one outfit. No chance this dress wins a style award in my book, but my baby will be happy (providing…) The tiny bit is left now – to make it.

Like the colour and wide stripes. Not too sure about the back. I can match the stripes no problem but it would look painfully neat and a bit too old fashion. Am I wrong?
It happens like a magic. I see the roll of fabric, I touch it , and thoughts start to steer in my head. What’s the purpose of this dress? That one is easy as a rule. Satin or cotton, denim or jersey. Fabric chooses the season. Two ingredients are there. Best thing I can do now, is to let it go, stand back and watch the dress parade with my mind eye. I watch them amazed, how clever details are put together, what an understanding of technics . No, nothing revolutionary, but still new, never seen in this combination, style or silhouette. The hardest part is to choose. Well, here I do have a trick. I think of the occasion. Will it be a party, or day at home, special holiday at the seashore, or an every day thing. It does not happen every time, sometime I have to do sketch after sketch chasing illusive combination. But that is fun too.
